Anthropology provides a holistic perspective on human development and the current state of our species. UA's School of Anthropology department is recognized for its interdisciplinary perspective on the field, integrating both theoretical and applied approaches to archaeology, sociocultural anthropology, biological anthropology, and anthropological linguistics into a coherent picture of human biological evolution and cultural diversity in both the past and the present.

The department's long-standing strengths in Southwestern and Mesoamerican studies, medical anthropology, the prehistory of hunter/gatherers, and global border issues are widely recognized.
